The CCHS automotive program is one of the most popular elective classes at the school.  Open to all 10th, 11th and 12th grade students, there are no prerequisites to take this 3 hour class.  After completion of this 900+ hour program, students are classified as a "technician assistant", and will receive a certificate of completion for their resume.

Students will work through the 8 major areas of the automobile, plus learn how to safely work in a real  automotive shop. The course is taught by an ASE certified master technician.

The 2008-09 school year is well under way and the new students in the automotive technology program are earger to get working. There are many basic skills they will need to learn and understand before they will feel comfortable working in the auto tech. class.  One of the biggest challenges is TOOLS! Ther are over three thousand tools in this program, the students will need to be able to locate them and identify their use.

This year the program has had an injection of money from the County, that means lots of new technology / equipment. Mr. Sorrentino even had to attend training sessions over the summer to learn how correctly operate this high tech equipment. The Automotive program received a new Hunter wireless alignment system and alignment rack, a new Hunter Disc / Drum brake lathe machine and to top it all off, a new Hunter "Roadforce" computized wheel balancer.  So the student will be learning  their employable skills on the latest equipment used in industry.

The classrom was also updated with a new Garage Top desks, that houses a wireless laptop computer for every students use.  Students will using the new laptops to work with the CDX interactive learning program. This program will explain and challenge the students in every area of the vehicle.  The addition of 14 Mega-Tech electrical trainers will be put to good use when the curriculum changes to electrical studies in the 2nd and 3rd quarters
