CCHS Designated a National School of Caring
Souper Bowl of Caring is proud to recognize our school as an official member of the 2008 National Schools of Caring. The recognition is due to the efforts of Key Club members and our students that collected over 4000 cans this past February in the Souper Bowl of Caring. All the student clubs competed against each other in "Souper Bowl" match-ups.

Student Rick Oxenhandler Awarded AOF Scholarship
Cooper City High School and the National Academy Foundation are pleased to announce that senior Rick Oxenhandler has been named a Citi Academy of Finance (AOF) Scholar for 2008. This prestigious program provides recipients with $20,000 in scholarship money, as well as the chance to apply for an internship with Citi in the summer of their junior year in college. Only 25 graduating seniors from Academies of Finance nationwide were awarded this honor. Congratulations to Rick Oxenhandler.

CCHS Students Win Ford/AAA Auto Skills Competition
Thomas Joswick
and Christopher Dillman, students in the CCHS Automotive Program, have won the Florida State Finals, competing in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition, April 2008.

Each student walked away with an $8,000 scholarship, including a full scholarship with the Ford ASSET / Broward Community College educational program.

They won by finding and repairing approximately 13 problems (bugs) that are intentionally put into the engine, lighting systems and accessories systems of the vehicle. The CCHS team repaired a 2008 Ford Escape in 55 minutes, well under the 90 minute time limit. In doing so, they defeated 9 other schools from around the State of Florida in this ‘hands-on’ contest. The Cooper City High team managed to repair all of the “bugs” on the vehicle, and turned in a perfect car, in the fastest time.

Thomas and Christopher and their automotive instructor Dan Sorrentino will be traveling, all expenses paid, to Dearborn, Michigan, June 21-24, to compete in the National Auto Skills Competition, against the other 49 States. The budget for last year's state & national competition was approximately 13 million dollars. This is the grandest of all automotive competitions.

This is the 7th time CCHS students have won this prestigious contest! We have won in 1999, 2000, 01, 03, 04,and 06.
